thus far, the most exciting things that have happened to me this week involved either going to the grocery store or to class. But it's only wednesday, so i guess there's room to improve.
Tuesday night, i was introduced to a magical store called Winco. shoutout to my bro jake for being from orem and owning a car so that we can get off campus every once in a while to do manly stuff, like rappel down waterfalls and go shopping. We usually go to this place called Buy Low, because food is really cheap there and they have pretty good selection, but you do have to be extremely careful about what you buy. (sometimes stuff is expired and such). for example, the last time i was at buy low, i bought some "boneless" chicken breasts. they turned out to be not quite so boneless, which was rather unfortunate. they also seemed to have been butchered rather poorly (pretty sure that there was definitely a chicken liver/heart/toenail left in there), so i've decided not to buy poultry from there anymore. Buy Low is the kind of store that makes you feel like you need to take a shower after you visit. Don't get me wrong, the place has got me through a lot, and up until tuesday i was completely sold on it. It was always a special occasion when we went to buy low; i would get all fresh because the store meant a lot to me (meaning i'd put deodorant on that day or something like that). The reason that buy low was so great is because it was an alternative to going to the insanely overpriced BYU creamery (which i'm convinced is run by the devil himself). not only did i get to buy large amounts of crappy food for a small amount of money, but i got to say "screw it" to the creamery with every swipe of my debit card at buy low. get at me.
But buy low shall be no more (provided that jake's car doesn't die and that he's cool with driving into orem to get groceries once a week-ish).
Winco is pretty much like wal-mart. actually, it's way better. for starters, the ground beef is attractively packaged (for some reason yellow Styrofoam is rather unappealing to me), which just screams "high quality store right here" to me. as an added bonus, winco shows the prices of all its competitors (like smith's and maceys) so that you know exactly how much money you save there when you buy. Where Buy low is a moist, dark, ghetto food-lion type store, Winco is a well-lit, uplifting, organized place that doesn't have crack dealers in the alley behind it. true story.
So i'mma try and hit winco up a bit more. There is no perfect grocery store, because some things that i eat a lot, like pop tarts, are cheaper at buy low, but then again, i switched my breakfast food from pop tarts this week to wonderbread bagels. i figure if i have a toaster, lots of brown sugar, and nutella i should be good to go for eating lots of bagels. I learned this week that vegetable spread (only a buck at the creamery) and butter (a solid $2.35) are NOT the same thing, even though they look like it.
Shout out to my 9 year old brother for getting suspended from school this week. the kid is a boss. Hopefully one day he will find my blog (in a couple years maybe) and read this post and smile. He is an inspiration to us all. Why is he suspended? Truancy. He has a history. I wish i had this kid's brain in elementary school. Honest to goodness, i did not skip a single day of school the entire time i was enrolled in the public education system. I didn't even know that people skipped school until middle school orientation where they told us we'd pretty much suffer in the black pits of heck if we ever did, and that was enough to keep me on the straight and narrow. So here's to you man, for sticking it to the system. When i was 9 you were born. You've come a long way. I also remember that during the 9 months preceding your birth the ankney household was pretty much devoid of chocolate chip cookies because the smell made mom nauseous. Keep it up and you'll go far. You've already realized that being awesome is way more important than going to school. If you ever need it, i will bail you out of jail without a moments hesitation because i'm sure that you would be in there for a perfectly good reason.
New idea: i'm going to spotify a random-ish album every couple days and blog about it. right now i'm spinning John Legend's "get lifted." hopefully y'alls like music cause this is about to become form and analysis. One of my favorite things is a solid album. I hate albums that have like 1 or 2 good songs on them then the rest reek of rotten squid.
